The Scientific Aptitude Index, or SAI, is the reporting language used by NLSO to help students, parents, and schools understand science readiness beyond raw marks. It focuses on how a learner understands concepts, applies ideas, reasons through unfamiliar situations, and interprets information.
NLSO helps schools understand how students reason, apply concepts, and solve scientific problems, not only how many answers they get right.

SAI is designed as an academic guidance indicator. It should be used to identify strengths, improvement areas, and next learning steps. It should not be used as a fixed label for a child or as a deterministic career prediction.
Until ScienceX publishes a representative national norming study, comparison language should remain cycle-specific: comparison with participating students in the current NLSO cycle.

Scientific Aptitude Index
The Scientific Aptitude Index (SAI) is a standardized benchmark score used in NLSO to measure a student's scientific ability beyond raw marks.
It combines performance in conceptual understanding, scientific application, scientific reasoning, and scientific interpretation to make the result more useful for students, parents, and schools.

Reading data, charts, passages, and case studies.
Why It Matters
Raw marks are useful, but they do not always explain how a student performed across different scientific skills. SAI turns NLSO performance into a more meaningful benchmark.
