Assessment Framework
A public explanation of how NLSO under NSAT evaluates conceptual understanding, application, reasoning, and interpretation.
How NLSO looks at science learning
NLSO is positioned under the National Scientific Assessment Test (NSAT). It uses the Scientific Aptitude Index (SAI) language to communicate science ability beyond raw marks.
| Assessment lens | Simple meaning | Why it matters |
|---|---|---|
| Conceptual understanding | Does the student understand the idea clearly? | Strong concepts support long-term science learning. |
| Application | Can the student use the idea in a new situation? | Application separates memorization from understanding. |
| Reasoning | Can the student explain, compare, infer, or solve logically? | Reasoning builds scientific thinking. |
| Interpretation | Can the student read data, diagrams, observations, or cases? | Interpretation is important for real science practice. |
Use this framework with What is SAI?, Mock Tests, and Preparation Materials.
